A pre-eminent authority on digital filmmaking, writer and author, Maxie D. Collier has made a name for himself as a media-maker. Combining the craft of filmmaking with publishing, he launched dvfilmmaker.com in the late nineties. This DV filmmaker's website lead to his self-published DV Filmmaker's Handbook, which is considered to be "the definitive guide to digital filmmaking." IFilm, a leading website of short indie films licensed the books second edition in 1999.
With Collier's production of Paper Chasers, a documentary film about hip-hop entrepreneurship, he organized a posse and drove across the country to interview successful hip-hop business and music entertainment phenomenon's. This piece explores the fast-paced world of hip-hop/rap culture in terms of fashion, music, film and the Internet. In 1993, he produced the award winning short supernatural thriller, Mind Games. Three years later, this Baltimore native co-produced his first feature, Detention in his hometown. Later, the same year, he wrote, produced and directed the feature, Hacks. Prior to declaring his independence, Collier began his career as a technical director at Black Entertainment Television cable network, while he simultaneously continued to write, produce and direct short films and music videos.
As a result of these diverse and creative experiences, Maxie Collier has become a popular guest speaker at film festivals, conferences and schools across the country. He has provided instruction in digital workshops, and participated in panels at Digital Hollywood, the Independent Feature Film Market, Showbiz Expo and others.
