Appointed as Distribution Manager for Mypheduh Films, Inc., Ms. Shaw was the marketing mastermind behind the 1994-95 national theatrical release of the highly acclaimed film, Sankofa. Shaw was responsible for Sankofa's premiere and successful run in over thirty cities during it's 1994-95 national commercial theatrical run.
With a background in graphic design and promotion, she formed Amber Images, a consultant and public relations firm. Amber Images specialized in marketing and promotions of African American films, video and art events in the District of Columbia. Her promotions include: Stanley Nelson’s The Black Press; Soldiers Without Swords; Julie Dash's Daughters of the Dust, the PBS premier of Marlon Rigg's Color Adjustment and Camille Billops' Finding Christina, as well as the U.S. theatrical release of the Zimbabwean film Neria. Ms. Shaw, a former community activist, used a national grassroots based marketing, promotions and distribution strategy to exhibit Sankofa nationwide.
Drawing on the rich experience of African American film legend, Oscar Micheaux, Ms. Shaw utilized 4-wall rental arrangements, and nontraditional marketing and distribution techniques to empower African American audiences to support quality cinema by exhibiting independent films, by, for, and about people of African descent. Ms. Shaw resides in New York City. Future plans include the showcasing and programming of quality film shorts by Black independent filmmakers. She is also invoved in home video distribution with Delta Entertainment.
