A Song for Jade marked the directional debut for, Writer/Producer/Director Shari Lynn Himes. Prior work experience in the industry includes: work as line producer, production manager/coordinator, and producer's assistant on such movies as; Scenes for the Soul, Malcolm X, Light It Up, and the Emmy award winning television drama, E.R.

Himes attended Hunter College in New York where she worked with Good Morning America and with Troika Productions. Upon graduating from Indiana University with a B.A. in Theater and Telecommunications, Shari relocated to Chicago where she worked on several local productions. Her advancement from production coordinator to production manager was at the hands of the then up-and-coming director George Tillman (Men of Honor) on his debut film Scenes for the Soul. That experience coupled with others to follow inspired Shari to produce and direct independently.

Shari is a recipient of the Madame C.J. Walker "Spirit" Award. She is the two-time winner of the Black Filmmakers Hall of Fame film festival, three time winner of the Chicago Community Cinema Golden Can Award, and winner of the INDY from the Indiana Film Society. A Song For Jade has been screened at numerous film festivals and markets across the country.

In addition to independent filmmaking, Shari acts as manager and artistic director for the Legacy Theater of the Indiana State Museum. She continues to write, and develop future projects, which include a feature length film that she will direct.
